Travel Information

Everything you need to know before your East African adventure—from visas and health tips to packing and safari permits.

Plan Your Journey with East Africa Safari Tours Inc.

We’re excited to welcome you to East Africa — home of breathtaking wildlife, lush landscapes, and vibrant cultures. To help you prepare for your trip, here’s everything you need to know before you go.

🛂 Entry Visas & Passports

  • A valid passport with at least 6 months validity from your date of entry is required.

  • Most travelers need a visa to enter Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, or Tanzania. We recommend applying online through official government portals.

  • The East Africa Tourist Visa allows seamless travel between Rwanda, Uganda, and Kenya—ideal for multi-country safaris.

💉 Health & Vaccinations

  • Yellow fever vaccination is required for entry to many East African countries. Carry your Yellow Fever Certificate.

  • Recommended vaccinations: Hepatitis A & B, Typhoid, Tetanus, and Malaria prophylaxis.

  • Travel with a small first-aid kit, insect repellent, sunscreen, and any prescribed medications.

💰 Currency & Payments

  • Local currencies include:

    • Rwandan Franc (RWF)

    • Ugandan Shilling (UGX)

    • Kenyan Shilling (KES)

    • Tanzanian Shilling (TZS)

  • US Dollars are widely accepted for safaris, permits, and hotels. Ensure your notes are issued after 2009 and in good condition.

  • Credit cards are accepted in major hotels/lodges, but carry cash for rural areas.

📱 Connectivity & SIM Cards

  • Local SIM cards are available at airports and cities (MTN, Airtel, Safaricom, Vodacom).

  • Most lodges and hotels offer Wi-Fi, though it may be limited in remote areas.

🌤️ Weather & What to Pack

East Africa enjoys a tropical climate with varying temperatures by altitude and season.

  • Dry seasons: June to October & December to February (best for safaris)

  • Wet seasons: March to May & November (lush landscapes and fewer tourists)

Essentials to Pack:

  • Lightweight breathable clothes in neutral colors

  • A warm jacket (for chilly mornings and evenings)

  • Comfortable walking shoes or boots

  • Hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen

  • Binoculars and camera

  • A small backpack for day trips

🚐 Transportation & Road Travel

  • We provide 4x4 safari vehicles with pop-up roofs for excellent game viewing.

  • All tours include professional driver-guides, fuel, and park fees.

  • Airport transfers and inter-country travel are arranged for multi-destination tours.

🦍 Gorilla & Wildlife Permits

  • Gorilla trekking permits are required for Rwanda and Uganda.

  • Chimpanzee and Golden Monkey permits also require early booking.

  • These permits are limited and sell out fast, so we advise booking 3–6 months in advance.

🛡️ Travel Insurance

  • Comprehensive travel insurance is highly recommended.

  • It should cover medical emergencies, cancellations, lost baggage, and travel delays.

🌍 Responsible Travel

  • Respect local cultures, customs, and traditions.

  • Support conservation by following park rules and guides’ instructions.

  • Choose to travel plastic-free and leave no trace in the wild.
