Tour Itinerary

Your safari begins with a 5:00 AM pick-up from your Kigali hotel. After breakfast en route, you will enjoy the scenic drive east to Akagera National Park (approx. 2.5–3 hours). Upon arrival, you'll embark immediately on an exciting game drive across the park’s savannahs, spotting elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, and other wildlife. Optionally, you'll enjoy a boat safari on Lake Ihema to see hippos and birds. In the late afternoon, you'll have dinner at your lodge and spend the night surrounded by the sounds of the African wilderness.

After breakfast, you'll enjoy a half-day morning game drive in Akagera National Park. You'll spot elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, and other wildlife across the scenic savannah. Following lunch, begin the drive to Volcanoes National Park (approx. 6–7 hours), passing Rwanda’s beautiful hills and local villages. You'll arrive in the late afternoon or evening, ready for the gorilla and golden monkey trekking adventures in the coming days.

After an early breakfast, you'll meet your guide at the park office and set out into the lush forests of Volcanoes National Park for your first gorilla trekking adventure. You'll trek through the misty forest to encounter a habituated gorilla family, spending an unforgettable hour observing their behavior in the wild. After the trek, you may visit the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund to learn about gorilla conservation. You'll return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay, reflecting on your incredible wildlife encounter.

You'll start with breakfast and embark on your second gorilla trek, visiting a different gorilla family in Volcanoes National Park. You'll witness gorilla interactions and the beauty of the forest. After trekking, you will return for lunch, then visit the Iby’iwacu Cultural Village to experience traditional Rwandan music, dance, and local customs. You'll conclude the day with dinner and an overnight stay at the lodge.

After breakfast, you will embark on a golden monkey trek in the bamboo forests of Volcanoes National Park, observing these playful primates in their natural habitat. After trekking, you'll return to the lodge for lunch, then drive back to Kigali. Time permitting, you can visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial and Kimironko Market before your onward travel or hotel drop-off, concluding your unforgettable 5-day Rwandan wildlife and cultural safari.
